INFO & FAQS —

Good Information Makes for a Better Tattoo

Whether you’re planning your first tattoo or adding to an existing collection, it helps to know what to expect. Here you’ll find straightforward answers about choosing an artist, preparing for your appointment, caring for your new tattoo, and other common questions.

Your First Tattoo Should Feel Like You.

Excitement and nerves often arrive together. That’s normal. You do not need to know tattoo terminology, arrive with a finished drawing, or have every detail figured out before you speak with an artist.

Begin With the Idea

Think about what you want the tattoo to express, what imagery or visual references appeal to you, where you may want it, and how large you imagine it. Your artist can help refine the design and explain how size, placement, detail, and color affect the finished tattoo.

Choose the Right Artist

Look for work that feels close to the direction you want. The right match is not simply the artist with the largest following – it is the artist whose strengths fit your idea and whose guidance gives you confidence.

Ask Questions

A good consultation is a conversation. Ask about placement, size, healing, timing, preparation, and anything else you are uncertain about. Honest questions help everyone make better decisions.

Before Your Appointment

  • Follow any preparation instructions provided by your artist.
  • Eat a good meal and drink water beforehand.
  • Wear clean, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area.
  • Bring valid photo identification and any required payment.
  • Avoid arriving impaired; your appointment may be refused.
  • Plan enough time so neither you nor the artist feels rushed.

Aftercare: Protect the Work. Support the Healing.

A tattoo is both artwork and a healing skin wound. Proper care helps protect the design and reduces avoidable irritation. Your artist’s instructions for your specific tattoo and bandage always take priority over general information online.

General Care

  • Wash your hands before touching the tattoo or its covering.
  • Leave the initial bandage or protective film in place for the time your artist specifies.
  • When instructed, wash gently with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel; do not rub.
  • Apply only the product and amount recommended by your artist.
  • Wear clean, loose clothing that does not repeatedly rub the area.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin.
  • Avoid soaking, swimming, and prolonged sun exposure while the tattoo heals.
  • Once healed, protect the tattoo from sun exposure to help preserve its appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

Not always. Walk-ins may be possible when an artist and enough time are available. Appointments are recommended for artist-specific, custom, larger, or more detailed projects and for visitors with limited dates.

Do you only create Traditional tattoos?

No. ‘Traditional tattoo parlor’ describes our respect for the craft, culture, and personal shop experience. Our artists work across styles including American Traditional, Neo-Traditional, Japanese, Fine Line, Realism, Black-and-Gray, and more.

Do you do tattoo coverups?

Yes. Our artists can often redesign or conceal an existing tattoo with new artwork. The possibilities depend on the tattoo’s size, color, darkness, location, and condition, as well as what you would like to create. Send us clear photos or stop by the shop so an artist can evaluate the tattoo and discuss realistic options with you.

How do I choose an artist?

Start with the artists’ portfolios and the kinds of work each most enjoys. If you are unsure, send us your idea, style, size, placement, and references, and we can help direct your inquiry.

Can I bring reference images?

Yes. References help communicate the direction, details, and feeling you like. They are a starting point for conversation, not necessarily a design to copy exactly.

Can you help if I do not have a finished design?

Absolutely. Many tattoos begin with an idea rather than completed artwork. An artist can help develop a tattoo that works visually and fits the body well.

I'm visiting Sarasota. How early should I contact you?

As early as possible if your dates are limited or you want a particular artist. Include your travel dates and availability in your inquiry.

How should I prepare?

Eat beforehand, stay hydrated, wear appropriate comfortable clothing, bring valid identification, and follow any artist-specific instructions.
